52. Sprigg4 Shackleford (John3, James2, James B.1) was born in Maysville KY 11/27/1849. Sprigg died 11/1932 in Gunnison CO, at 82 years of age.
He married Carra Sinclair McClure in Kentucky, 6/20/1878. Carra was born in Kentucky 12/4/1859. Carra was the daughter of William McClure and Eliza Hord Clark. Carra died 4/28/1933 in Denver CO, at 73 years of age. From Anna Singer: "Sprigg read law and practiced in Maysville, at one time was the youngest mayor ever elected in Maysville, but moved to Gunnison CO in 1881. He practiced there, later was a judge of the 7th Colo. Dist. court and City Judge of Gunnison, and was active in Republican politics. Family left KY partly because their Union/Lincoln Republican sentiments weren't doing them much good in the post-reconstructionist South. Sprigg and Carra brought with them to Colorado a former family slave named Liza White, who 'brought up' their children and is buried in the family plot in Gunnison. Lila Harlan remembered and asked for Liza long after she had forgotten who all the living family members around her were. The family indicated that towards the end of his life, Sprigg was, as ever, sweet and gentlemanly but incompetent--"Alzheimerzish" in current terms--and that his wife Carra actually conducted all the business of the city court, including records, until his death."
Sprigg Shackleford and Carra Sinclair McClure had the following children:
