34. John³ Shackleford (James², James B.¹) was born in Mason County, Kentucky March 8, 1801. John died January 4, 1885 at 83 years of age.

He married Ann Chambers December 23, 1833. Ann was born in Washington, Kentucky UNKNOWN. Ann was the daughter of James Chambers and Ann ?. Ann died 1884. (Printed in Kentucky Ancestors, Vol. 5, No. 1, p. 13.] "Dr. John Shackelford of Maysville, born March 8, 1801, Mason County about six miles from Maysville - died January 4, 1885. His father, James Shackelford, was born in Fauquier County, Virginia. His mother was Elizabeth Clarke (died in 1821) a native of Northumberland County,Virginia. December 23, 1833, James [sic--must mean John sbt] Shackelford married Ann, daughter of James and Ann Chambers, who for 51 years was his faithful wife. Dr. John Shackelford had 7 children--five sons and two daughters. The sons were: John, James, Charles, William C., and Sprigg Shackleford. The daughters were Mary, died aged 4--Nannie died aged 8. John Shackelford married December 23, 1833 Mrs. Ann (Chambers) Coburn."

From Anna Singer: "[Lived all his life in Maysville, KY.Studied medicine by apprenticing to Drs. Duke and Henry of Washington township in Mason County, and in 1824 graduated from Transylvania University medical school. Practiced 1824-1881. He was a Union sympathizer, Lincoln Republican and abolitionist--in spite of the family having slaves of their own prior to 1860. Had an apparent stroke 3/29/1881 and was "impaired" thereafter, according to his son John's memorial tribute to his father, published privately in March, 1885.] [Side note: *All the sons became professionals: John was both a Baptist minister and professor of English and logic at Kentucky State College, later lived in Tacoma, WA (below). James became a physician in Maysville, no issue. Charles became a lawyer in Bloomington, IL, later a circuit judge in Mississippi, no issue. William C. became a druggist, had daughters Annie and Alice who never married. Sprigg became a lawyer and judge(below)]"

50 iv. Charles Shackleford was born 1841. Charles died 1909 at 68 years of age. He married Orlena ? UNKNOWN. Orlena was born 1841. Orlena died 1901 at 60 years of age.

51 v. William C. Shackleford was born 1847. William died UNKNOWN. He married Lizzie ? 1878. Lizzie was born 1848. Lizzie died UNKNOWN.

+ 52 vi. Sprigg Shackleford was born 11/27/1849.

53 vii. Ann Shackleford was born 1851. Ann died 1859 at 8 years of age.
