Note: There is speculation about the link between John and Francis. Please read the following exerpt from an e-mail I received from Sandy Shackelford about the connection:
There is a query on the Query Page at the web site that you mentioned from Ruby Elrod. She is the expert on the subject and she told me that she hasn't been able to find a connection between our Francis and Roger. That is not to say there isn't one, she just hasn't been able to find it. There are a lot of people out there that believe that my Francis is the son of Capt. John Shackelford, who is the son of Roger (I think). But there is no documented proof of that, according to Ruby Elrod. My Francis died in Caswell County, NC and the son of Capt. John died, I think, in Onslow County. I'm trying to tell you this from memory, that's why all the "I think's". I'm sure there is a connection somewhere, it's just not been found.
