The following wedding announcement appeared in a Tacoma Washington newspaper on Thursday, October 8, 1936:
Rites Held At Noon
Gear-Shackleford Wedding; Home in Port Angeles
Mrs. John A. Shackleford opened her North J Street home at high noon, Tuesday, for the marriage of her nephew, John Lewis Shackleford, a son of the late Lewis P. Shackleford and Mrs. Martha S. Shackleford, to Miss Ethel G. Gear of Wisconsin.
Kinsfolk alone were wedding guests, the rites being solemnized by Dr. King D. Beach, pastor of the First Methodist Church.
Following the ceremony a wedding breakfast found as hostesses, the bridgegroom's mother and aunt, assisted by his cousin, Miss Elizabeth Shackleford.
Early in the afternoon the bride and bridegroom left by motor for Port Angeles, where Mr. Shackleford has a home prepared for his bride.
The bride has been in the west for some time, on the nursing staff of the General hospital at Sequim. The bridegroom's family has long been an integral part of the life of Tacoma and many wishes of Godspeed follow the young people to their first home.
Ethel died a widow at a nursing home at 720 Seneca #416, Seattle, Washington. She had been a homemaker and had lived in King county, Washington for 49 years. The cause of death was cardiac arrest.
